"An artist with the eye of a hawk and the touch of a butterfly" Keith Dashwood the Dashwood gallery, London

biography

Born in 1952, George Fanshawe trained at Goldsmith's College from 1971-1974. He spent much of his youth exploring the marshlands next to the River Thames at Erith and many of his landscapes include mist, low-level views through reeds and light on water. In 1972 he lived for a period in Southern Germany and it was here, when chalking on pavements with German art students, that his passion for the use of pastel as a medium was born. He became well known for his haunting use of light and evocative colour in his landscapes. His unique use of fine texture and detail in pastel has led to a style between impressionism and photo-realism. He is one of a small number of British artists to have been accepted for architectural commisions by the New Academy Gallery, Windmill Street, London. The artist is increasingly in demand with regard to house portraits.
